In just over a weeks time it will be our third wedding anniversary, so i thought I’d write a couple of posts about it.
Let’s start where it begins though, with the proposal….
On 14th July 2013, a regular Sunday J got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, I was putting the shopping away in the freezer and when I shut the door there he was. Obviously I said yes. Now you may be thinking it wasn’t this big elaborate romantic event but it was in our home and it felt right. I didn’t need all the fancy stuff when I get to be with my soul mate for the rest of my life, plus the only thing I always wanted was for my Dad’s permission to be asked and he had done that.
So now the planning starts…
When it came to theme we settled on the 1920’s because of my love for F. Scott Fitzgerald’s, The Great Gatsby. I’ve always been fascinated with that era and the book had added fuel to that fire.
The colours we chose were midnight blue (J’s favourite colour) and champagne, the contrast between the two made them work perfectly together. I also envisaged peacock feathers and pearls draped on candelabras, I couldn’t wait to start organising.
Now this wedding like so many others needed to be on a budget and it was; in complete honesty the venue we chose, The Burlington Hotel in Folkestone, was on a Groupon Voucher (the package was amazing), it included the ceremony and reception rooms, Toastmaster, drinks package, three course meal and evening buffet for 50 guests plus 5 bedrooms for the bargain price of £2,500. We weren’t silly though before shelling out the cash we booked in to meet the wedding coordinator and have a really good look around the venue. Needless to say it was PERFECT! The venue matched our theme and Heidi the coordinator was so lovely. The date we wanted was available and we booked there and then and sorted the Groupon voucher out. I was slightly panicked at sending the money via PayPal but it all went through ok.
So the venue was booked and the theme decided. As I said the purse strings were tight so I made/sourced as much as I could. The pictures and captions below show what I did myself or sourced to save costs.
We dressed the venue the day before so we could relax on the day, plus I was staying over with my Sister in one of our rooms so we could have a girly night after dinner in the hotel restaurant. It was nice to sample the food (which was delicious) and the restaurant coordinator introduced himself as he would be making sure our wedding breakfast went without a hitch.
In the ceremony room, we only added a couple of floor standing candelabras draped in pearls as decoration as we would only be in here for a small part of the day and our budget could be better used elsewhere within the venue.
We hired chair covers for the reception room, adorned with a midnight blue sash tied in a bow to the side.
To add definition to the top table I purchased several meters of midnight blue fabric which I then scalloped across the front, the effect with the pure white was striking.
I wanted to include The Great Gatsby book in some way so I printed and framed my favourite quotes and placed them leading to the ceremony room, in the reception room and at the bar (they are now in our hall, leading up the stairs).
So, the venue is now set up ready for the big day. In part two I will talk about our bridal party style and share more snaps from the wedding.
